The clients house is a very modern new build with clear white edges and almost has a Mediterranean feel to it. The brief was to construct a garden much more cottagey, with much softer edges.
The pond takes centre stage, two foot deep at the back edge and getting shallower as it reaches the shingle. The remaining edges are surrounded by meadow turf. Easy to look after and dramatic in effect. Both materials also provide an easy method of escape for any creature that wishes to leave the water for whatever purpose.
There are two raised beds, which are for vegetables, hence the emptiness at the moment. The flowering is designed to give some year round colour and includes ceonothus, dogwood, crab apple, buddliea, forsythia, holly, lavender and cotoneaster. There is a small patio in the back right corner so as to catch the sun at the end of the day.
Our very delighted clients have invited us to come back next summer to see how the garden will mature. We can’t wait.
Huge thanks to Gareth and the team from the Potting Shed Landscapes in Broadstairs.
